Buyer onboarding

How to buy on a darknet market, step by step

A practical, no-fluff walkthrough for someone who has never placed an order on Anubis or Nexus. Six steps, no mystery, no jargon.

This is a working procedure. It assumes you have a clean machine and you can install software. It does not assume you know anything about Tor, Monero, or multisig escrow. Every step has a clear stop condition. If you cannot finish a step, stop, do not improvise, come back to the directory and read the relevant deep-dive page.

Step 1. Install Tor Browser.

Go to torproject.org directly, download the installer for your operating system, and verify the signature against the project key. Do not install Tor Browser from a third-party mirror, do not install a "Tor wrapper" that someone posted on a forum, do not use a clearnet VPN as a substitute. Tor Browser is the supported access tool.

Step 2. Set the security slider to Safest.

Click the shield icon in the top right of Tor Browser. Three settings. Safest disables JavaScript by default, blocks remote fonts, blocks WebGL. Both Anubis and Nexus storefronts work without JavaScript, so Safest is fine.

Step 3. Bookmark this directory on the clearnet.

Bookmark DarkPort, not the onion address you intend to visit. The directory updates the mirror table on every prober cycle. A bookmarked onion will eventually fall out of rotation; a bookmarked directory stays current.

Step 4. Copy a mirror from the home page.

Both Anubis and Nexus publish three mirrors on their detail page. Hit copy on the Primary. Paste into Tor Browser. Wait for the page to load. If a challenge page appears, complete it.

Step 5. Create the account.

The signup form asks for a username, password, optional invite code (skip if you do not have one), and a captcha. Use a username you have not used elsewhere. Use a password you have not used elsewhere. Save both into a password manager.

Step 6. Fund the account in Monero.

Both markets default new accounts to Monero. The deposit screen shows you a fresh address to send to. Send from a Monero wallet you control. The deposits guide covers wallet selection, ring sizes, and how to confirm the deposit posted.

That is the procedure. If you can do all six steps, you can place an order. If you get stuck on any of them, the directory has a deep-dive page on every step. Bookmark it.
